Hapkido techniques learned in Yamoussoukro

Hapkido techniques were the subject of a refresher course in Yamoussoukro from January 9 to 10, 2021.

The specificity of Hapkido, a martial art of Korean origin which is tending to take hold in Côte d’Ivoire, was at the center of a course which brought together from January 9 to 10, 2021, several practitioners, including great masters in Yamoussoukro.

Through this meeting, the National Federation of Hapkido and associated disciplines intended to disclose this martial art in the Ivorian political capital, in order to make it a large practice area and then gradually extend it throughout the country.

“We intend to return soon for the grandes écoles because the seed exists in Yamoussoukro”, announced its president, master Nicolas Vako.

Hapkido borrows its techniques from several other traditional arts whose shortcomings it intends to correct to develop a discipline that highlights self-defense.

“It’s not Judo, it’s not taekwondo, but all at the same time. Each art has its limits and we have mixed everything to release an art where, from start to finish, you are always ready ”, explained the president of the National Hapkido Federation.

Pushing further, the deputy national technical director, master N’guessan Basile, added that Hapkido “has for particularity the joint keys, the projections, the stops, the strangles and all that can put an attacker out of control. ‘state of harm in one blow, in one touch’.

The Ivorian National Federation of Hapkido and associated disciplines has existed for two years. It should very soon complete its three years of existence which give the right to state recognition. In the meantime, it has at least five affiliated clubs.
