Großkreutz:Farewell by video
Kevin Großkreutz ends professional career.
Kevin Großkreutz, 2014 world champion, ended his professional career at the age of 32. “After 15 years, it is time for me to say goodbye to professional football,” said Großkreutz, who was last without a club, in a video published on Instagram on Sunday. In it he showed some of the highlights of his career, which were accompanied by music.
With Borussia Dortmund, Großkreutz was twice champion (2011, 2012) and cup winner (2012) under coach Jürgen Klopp. He played six international matches and was appointed to the World Cup squad by national coach Joachim Löw in 2014. At the tournament in Brazil, however, he was not used. “Unbelievable, these many moments,” he says in the video: It was “perhaps not a picture book career”, but: “Everyone makes mistakes, the most important thing is that you stand by them.” Großkreutz was under contract with third division club KFC Uerdingen until October. He did not rule out joining an amateur club.
