Foot – Transfers – Jean Lucas (OL) loaned to Brest

Transfers

OL Brazilian midfielder Jean Lucas wanted to be loaned to a Ligue 1 club. He should be loaned early next week in Brest, until the end of the season.

This is information from our colleagues at L’Equipe. His too meager playing time had pushed him, this winter, to ask to be loaned and primarily in Ligue 1, as revealed by L’Équipe on December 18, 2020. Jean Lucas had also been authorized by his director sportsman, Juninho, to ignore OL’s last match before the break, against Nantes (3-0) on December 23, in order to discuss his future with his entourage in Brazil. Several Ligue 1 clubs, including Nîmes and Nantes, had positioned themselves on the windfall of welcoming a player on loan for six months who bought 7 million euros from Flamengo in the summer of 2019. But it was Brest, who the 22-year-old has always given priority to, who is likely to win the bet. The relay midfielder, still very efficient in training in Lyon, suffered from increased competition in his sector of play (Paqueta, Bruno Guimaraes, Thiago Mendes, Caqueret, Aouar).

In recent days, he had discussed in French, a language he already speaks fluently, with Raymond Domenech and Olivier Dall’Oglio, the Nantes and Brest coaches. The game plan of the Finistère club, 10th in Ligue 1, visibly attracted him more. The Bretons should take care of a good part of the player’s salary, under contract until 2024 with OL and loaned without an option to buy. Jean Lucas, who could be traveling from Lyon to Rennes tomorrow, should then be presented at the beginning of next week in Brest. He will have the opportunity to show his worth in the Championship, in order to return to Lyon in the summer of 2021 to win there, which remains his objective.
