Father of the Russian cross-country skier: “I might have hit even harder” | Cross-country skiing

The video of the cross-country skier attacking his opponent goes viral. Meanwhile, father Bolshunov stands up for his son. “I’m on his side,” he responds.

Alexander Bolshunov was unable to control himself during a relay race last weekend. The World Cup Leader tried to hit and put down his opponent Joni Mäki.

“An emotional response,” his father responds to the website sports.ru. “In the images you can clearly see that Mäki touches Aleksandr first. I’m on my son’s side. Maybe I would have hit even harder.”

Former Olympic champion Jelena Välbe is also standing up for Bolshoenov. “He didn’t hit the Finn with his stick,” she notes. “It was a blow in the snow.”

You cannot call Välbe completely impartial. The star of the 90s is currently president of the Russian cross-country federation. “It is always us who are punished,” she grumbles.
