Electric rally Fabia. Sharp start already in the 2021 season!

Seriously, the Mladá Boleslav department of Škoda Motorsport has nothing to do with this car at all, even though the electrified race car is not only talked about behind the scenes. Originally, the Fabia RE-X1 was supposed to be just tested in the Rallye 2 series, but in the end it gets an exception from the AMF (Austrian Motorsport Federation) and can start right away. It will be driven by one of Austria’s best racing drivers, national champion Raimund Baumschlager.

Kreisel Electric is said to have spent more than 700,000 euros, or more than eighteen million crowns, on electrifying the Škoda Fabia R5, so it is in fact a full prototype, not just a rebuild. “It looks like a racing Škoda R5, but it’s a new car from the ground up,” says Kreisel Electric on its Facebook page.

“We have invested most of our money in the development of a rallycross car, where we will be the supplier of machines for the World Cup in the future. But the car can also enter the rally. “

In recent months, Kreisel Electric has focused not only on driving thousands of test kilometers, but also on being able to handle everything logistically. And what kind of car did they build? The 1,300 kg heavy racing special has one electric motor on each axle and their combined power is 670 hp and 880 Nm. Like most electric cars, the Fabia RE-X1 does not need a transmission. And as can be seen in the video from testing, the speed of the car is definitely not lacking. Just that sound…

In any case, speed and maneuverability are one thing, but in the rally you also go between the individual tests, and there is not much time left for the most important thing – to recharge the batteries. “We simulated racing kilometers of domestic competitions and managed every rally,” says Baumschlager. In any case, Kreisel makes no secret of the fact that he developed his own charging station for racing cars quickly during his participation in the Austrian championship.

Behind the scenes, there is now talk that Baumschlager wants nothing more than to win the title with the electric Fabia RE-X1. “We don’t want to lose, everyone’s goal is to win. The year 2021 is a year of apprenticeship for us, but we want to see that we can keep up, “said the competitor himself.

How do you like the electric Fabia R5? And what about Škoda Motorsport?
