David Côté’s road to the NFL goes through Hawaii

SOCCER. Rouge et Or kicker David Côté had a nice surprise this week when he received an invitation to participate in the 75th edition of the Hula Bowl.

With scouts from the NFL, XFL and CFL present in Honolulu to scrutinize the doings of players mostly from the NCAA, now is the perfect time for the football player to get their eyes wide open for a possible career in professional football.

“It happened very quickly. My agent Rob Fry told me that the organizers were interested in having me and a few days later I received my invitation. I just want to be myself. I want to impress with my calm and constancy. At this level, all kickers have the same power. The competition is much more against yourself. ”

Already seen

This is not David Côté’s first experience south of the border as he took part in a few specialized kicker camps. An experience that should help the slender kicker to achieve his goal.

“The NFL is sure to remain a dream. I have listened to almost every game this year due to the pandemic. It’s a very long road and I know I have a better chance of ending up in the CFL, but it still sticks in your head. This is also one of the reasons why I opted for my agent (Fry), who has clients on both sides of the border, he is used to working with specialists. ”

In the field

It looks like all that’s left for the Rouge et Or athlete, who has played his football exclusively in the Quebec City area with the Académie Saint-Louis and the CNDF, is to deliver the goods to the action.

“The worst is done. I’m there and can’t wait to be on the pitch. I’m only going to evolve as a precision kicker and on kickoffs and I think that’s my main strength. For a kicker, there are very few adjustments to the rules of American football. The beach is not far, I am in possession of all my means, ”ends the kicker, laughing.
