College basketball to be played in Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS.- The NCAA announced on Monday that all 67 games of the men’s national basketball championship, including the ‘Final Four’, will be played in the state of Indiana to avoid being canceled for the second consecutive year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The games will be played one at a time on two courts within Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts.

They will also be staged in the arenas Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Hinkle Fieldhouse, Indiana Farmers Coliseum, Mackey Arena in Purdue and Assembly Hall in Bloomington. The decisive “Final Four” is still scheduled for April 3 and 5, but the dates of the preliminary rounds of the “March Madness” have not yet been established, as is popularly defined by the university tournament.

“Last year, we had to take the ‘March Madness’ away from every team and every fan at the last minute,” NCAA President Mark Emmert said during a video conference. “We understood that it was the right decision, but it was somewhat painful. So this year we want to fulfill the promise of ‘March Madness’. They deserve it.”
