Bornauw: “Vaccine? Hope we will be in the queue like ordinary people” | Bundesliga

Due to the corona measures, almost everyone has had an atypical New Year’s Eve, but for the footballers in Germany there was an extra reason to experience a quiet evening: tomorrow and the day after tomorrow there is already competition football on the program.

“I already took a corona test at 9 am and so our group knows that everyone is negative for this afternoon’s training at 4.30 pm”, Sebastiaan Bornauw tells our editorial team.

The Cologne defender has celebrated the end of 2020 very modestly. “Normally I was alone, but my dad came here. We had a good Belgian meal: shrimp croquettes, lamb as a main course and a lemon tart.”

“It’s not a habit two days before a match, but now it is possible. And then I got into bed early. Of course I would have preferred to celebrate with my girlfriend and friends in Belgium, but it’s not a disaster.”

“We had 5 days off during the Christmas period. Then I went home for a while and was able to see my family. That was really good.”

Meanwhile, duty calls again, but perhaps the introduction of the corona vaccine could change the course of events.

Will football players in Germany be eligible for a vaccine soon (or faster than expected)? Is there “preferential treatment”?

Sebastiaan Bornauw: “I have no idea about that. I even hope that the elderly and people in difficulty will be vaccinated first and only then the footballers, that we will be in the queue like ordinary people.”

“Everyone went home for Christmas and there are no positive cases in our player group. So we stick to the rules. I think there are people who currently need a vaccine much more than we do.”
