Athletes and para-athletes prepare for international tournaments | News

The sports reactivation does not stop despite the times of pandemic. So far this year, the exponents of cycling, amateur wrestling, badminton, para-badminton, karate, shooting and para-shooting have returned to training at the National Sports Village (Videna).

Regarding the discipline of the pedals, the athletes began their preparation with a view to their participation in the Pan American Track Championship, which will take place in Peru in March, at the modern velodrome, located in Videna, which maintains excellent conditions, after the Lima 2019 Games.

This infrastructure has a 250-meter perimeter track, made of African wood and sports an imposing roof that makes it a closed stage, ideal for training all year round.

Due to these and other technical characteristics regarding its construction, equipment and capacity, the surface is approved by the International Cycling Union; which makes it an ideal setting for this sports festival that will receive the assistance of delegations from Colombia, Chile, Guatemala, Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, among others.

In this way, the headquarters that administers the Special Legacy Project will return to the rhythm of the competitions that put Peru in the world showcase; and in favor of a discipline that gave the country several medals at the Pan American and Parapan American Games.

“For now we are working on the aspect of speed and strength. We are very focused on the Pan American, because we will be hosts. The velodrome is very well cared for, thanks to the maintenance they give it, it is also suitable for our preparation, ”said Rubén Salinas, winner of the bronze medal in team speed.

On the other hand, following the biosafety protocols, the national amateur wrestling teams continue with their training cycle at the Sports Center 2 de la Videna, under the orders of Rafael Álvarez, head coach of the Peruvian Sports Federation of Wrestling (FDEPL).

Pool Ambrocio, who is classified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, performs specialized and specific work, taking into account that he will participate in different international championships in the coming months, to complement his preparation prior to the most important multi-sport event in the world.

“Despite the situation in the country, my physical, technical and psychological jobs are good. All this time helped me to improve and I take advantage of all the infrastructure that we have at our disposal ”, stated Ambrocio, highlighting the benefits of this sports space managed by the Special Legacy Project.

The exponents of badminton and para-badminton also joined in the reactivation of training sessions, as did the national teams of karate, shooting and para-shooting.

With judo, gymnastics, table tennis, for swimming, swimming, bowling, athletics, para-athletics and softball, there are about 16 disciplines that resumed their preparation this 2021 at the home of the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games.

The Special Legacy Project, attached to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), will continue to facilitate the use of the venues it manages so that athletes improve their performance and increase their competitiveness.

The Videna velodrome is considered one of the best cycling venues on the continent. It is closed and has a capacity for 2,300 spectators and a track width of seven meters.

In that enclosure, the 200-meter speed, keirin, team speed, kilometer with clock for men, 500 meters against the clock for women can be performed.
