American Crouser Improves 32 Year Old World Shot Put Record | Athletics

Ryan Crouser has been one of the best shot puters for several years now. The American is reigning Olympic champion and became vice world champion in Doha in 2019, because his fellow countryman Joe Kovacs was able to push the bullet just 1 centimeter further.

On Sunday, he claimed the spotlight in Fayetteville. On his first attempt, 28-year-old Crouser thrust the bullet no less than 22.82 meters. The mat in the indoor hall in the US was just long enough to catch the bullet.

Crouser breaks his countryman Randy Barnes’ record. Almost day after day 32 years ago, he let the bullet land after 22.66 meters.

The indoor shot put world record was the second oldest indoor world record for men, only Carl Lewis’s world record in 1984 in long jump is even older.

“First meeting, first attempt, normally things are a bit more difficult”, Crouser laughed. “You can call this a good start to 2021. I do have the feeling that there is still more to be achieved.”
