Aguada will not play the first matches of the Americas Champions League

Club Atlético Aguada decided not to appear for the first two games for the Basketball Champions League Americas, to be played on January 31 and February 1, in Buenos Aires, due to the health situation due to the covid-19 pandemic .

“Yesterday our club officially communicated to the authorities of FIBA Americas, its inability to participate in the games set by the Basketball Champions League Americas, for days 31/1 and 1 ° / 2, in the city of Buenos Aires ”, the rojiverde club announced this Tuesday morning.

“The health situation in our country and the current restrictions make it impossible to complete a roster that allows a minimum sports representation according to the international hierarchy of the tournament and the trajectory of our club,” adds the note from the rojiverdes.

Due to sanitary restrictions, Aguada saw the permission for foreigners Al Thornton and Dwayne Davis to return to Uruguay to resume training delayed.

The aguatero is located in Group C of the Basketball Champions League Americas, along with San Lorenzo from Argentina and Franca from Brazil.

The first two games of the series will be played in Buenos Aires on Sunday and next Monday, in which the rojiverdes will not be, who, despite not appearing in these games, did not give up the tournament and hope to be able to play the following dates .

Then the next matches will be in early March and the last two at the end of that month.

The top finishers of each of the four series will advance to the next phase, in which Peñarol is also in Group D, along with Flamengo from Brazil and Instituto de Córdoba.

Like Aguada, the charcoal makers have already announced that they will not play their first two games of their series, also for health reasons, which were to be played in Rio de Janeiro, with Flamengo as host.

Both Uruguayan teams are waiting to find out what determination FIBA will make regarding the measures adopted, if they reschedule those matches or if they are considered lost.

Aguada had already asked for the date of the first matches to be changed, but FIBA did not consider his request.
