KOMPAS.com – Two tournaments in Thailand are the last key for Indonesian badminton athletes to advance to the 2020 BWF World Tour Finals.

Until the end of the second tournament at the White Elephant Country, Toyota Thailand Open 2021, there were already five Indonesian representatives who confirmed their steps in the 2020 BWF World Tour Finals.

They are scattered in the men’s doubles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles and men’s singles sectors.

The BWF World Tour Finals 2020 will take place in Thailand from January 27 to January 31, 2021.

Based on data BadmintonTalk, the Indonesian mixed doubles sector is the largest contributor to representatives, namely two pairs.

They include Praveen Jordan / Melati Daeva Oktavianti and Hafiz Faizal / Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.

Praveen / Melati qualified earlier for the 2020 BWF World Tour Finals than Hafiz / Gloria in the mixed doubles sector.

PraMel, as the Praveen / Melati pair are called, advanced to the Super 1000 tournament after reaching the final of the Yonex Thailand Open 2021.

Even though they lost, their number of points was safe enough to advance to the 2020 BWF World Tour Finals.

In other sectors, the women’s doubles in the country, Greysia Polii / Apriyani Rahayu, became the first Indonesian representatives to advance to the 2020 BWF World Tour Finals.

The success of Greysia / Apriyani in stepping into the BWF World Tour Finals 2020 cannot be separated from their title in the first volume of Thailand Open 2021.

Greysia / Apriyani won the main podium in the Yonex Thailand Open 2021 at that time.

The steps of Greysia / Apriyani were then followed by the Indonesian men’s doubles senior pair, Mohammad Ahsan / Hendra Setiawan.

Ahsan / Hendra confirmed themselves to the BWF Tour Finals thanks to their victory in the last 32 of the Toyota Thailand Open 2021.

The last representative was from the men’s singles sector, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.

Anthony Ginting’s chance was actually almost closed thanks to his defeat in the last 16 of the Toyota Thailand Open 2021.

However, he was able to advance to the BWF World Tour Finals 2020 thanks to Hans-Kritian Solberg Vittinghus (Denmark) victory over Lee Cheuk Yiu (Hong Kong).
