15 German professionals at the start of the Australian Open qualification

Dubai (AP) – 15 German tennis professionals will fight in the qualifying competitions for a place in the main field of the Australian Open in the coming days.

The three German women Anna-Lena Friedsam (Andernach), Katharina Gerlach (Essen) and Antonia Lottner (Stuttgart) compete in Dubai, the twelve men play their qualifying games in Doha.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic and the entry regulations to Australia, the qualification will not take place in Melbourne. After the competitions from January 10th to 13th in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, the professionals with their reduced support teams will travel to Melbourne between January 15th and 17th and then go into quarantine for two weeks.

During this time they are allowed to train, but only leave their hotels for five hours a day. All those involved are tested several times for the corona virus. From January 31 to February 6, there are two tournaments known as Melbourne 1 and Melbourne 2 to prepare for the first Grand Slam tournament of the year and from February 1 to 5 the ATP Cup, a men’s team competition with two individuals and one double per game. The Australian Open is slated to begin on February 8th.

The twelve German men in the qualification in Doha are Rudi Molleker (Oranienburg), Cedrik-Marcel Stebe (Vaihingen), Oscar Otte (Cologne), Peter Gojowczyk (Munich), Yannick Maden (Stuttgart), Maximilian Marterer (Nuremberg), Tobias Kamke (Lübeck), Daniel Masur (Munich), Mats Moraing (Mülheim an der Ruhr), Julian Lenz (Gießen), Dustin Brown (Winsen / Aller) and Mischa Zverev (Hamburg).
