When one picture says it all, while “quarterback” Lukaku already …

Inter recorded a 3-1 victory against Bologna last weekend and remains in the running for the title in Italy. But whether Christian Eriksen will stay until the end of the season is a big question mark.

Romelu Lukaku did not need much time to increase his goal count. After fifteen minutes of play, on a Perisic cross, he went into a good duel with Tomiyasu and then worked the opening goal against the ropes.

The Red Devil has now scored eight goals in his first nine appearances in Serie A this season. He has also scored in all four of Inter’s home games to date, tying Christian Vieri’s record. It caused, again, a lot of praise from trainer Antonio Conte.

“I really believe that Lukaku can get even better,” said the Italian. “I described him as a diamond in the rough when he arrived here because I felt that the necessary work could make him one of the best strikers in the world. He is well on his way to that status. He has everything, such as the physical strength of a striker, but also the speed and power of a quarterback in rugby. He is doing very well, understands what needs to be done, is humble and works for the team. I am very happy with his performance. ”

On the front page of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter was called “a goals machine with Lukaku” on Monday.

What about Eriksen?

As good as it goes with Lukaku, as bad as it goes with Christian Eriksen. The Danish playmaker came over from Tottenham for 27 million euros in the winter of 2020, but has not been able to break pots in Milan so far. On the contrary. Eriksen scored just four goals and three assists in 36 appearances under Conte, all last season.

He was only at the kick-off four times this campaign and never once was he allowed to complete the 90 minutes. Against Bologna, Conte did not seem to count on Eriksen, until he let the Dane come in in the 91st minute. The face of the otherwise frisky number ten spoke volumes.

Rumors have been circulating for weeks that Inter wants to sell poor Eriksen again soon. Arsenal, Bayern and PSG, among others, would be interested. “We are not going to force anyone to stay if a player would rather leave,” said sports director Beppe Marotta about the situation.

In the meantime, Conte did receive some criticism for his substitution of Eriksen, but Inter legend Beppe Bergomi thinks the Dane could do well. “He is not a champion and not suitable to play in Italy. Let alone for Conte. Inter has lost time and perhaps a title by wanting to fit it into the system. ”
