At Werder Bremen, the opposition is mobilizing against the management. Part of the movement is moderator Jörg Wontorra, who is aiming for a post and who is clearly critical. Werder’s sports director immediately goes for the counterattack.
Fernseh journalist Jörg Wontorra will run for the supervisory board of Bundesliga soccer club Werder Bremen. The 72-year-old confirmed his candidacy for the online portal “deichstube.de”.
“I feel very honored that representatives of several Werder fan groups that have joined forces have approached me and asked me to run for the supervisory board,” said Wontorra, who has the support required by at least 50 members has already received.
With him and the “group of concerned club members”, which include the former Werder managers Klaus-Dieter Fischer, Willi Lemke and Manfred Müller, the four-time German champions should change course. “Werder Bremen was once the second best club in Germany. Now we only belong in the Mainz, Augsburg or Freiburg categories. You shouldn’t be satisfied with that, ”complained Wontorra.
“Just somehow stay in the Bundesliga”
The former Sky journalist explicitly criticized the management of Klaus Filbry and Hubertus Hess-Grunewald. “At Werder, many sit in their comfort zone and just want to defend their status. You’re content with just staying in the Bundesliga somehow. The management is not optimally positioned. There is a lack of competence, ”he said.
The counterattack to the harsh criticism was not long in coming. At the matchday press conference before the duel against VfB Suttgart (Sunday, 3:30 p.m.), sports director Frank Baumann was confronted with the statements made by Wontorra about the management. His statement started out constructively. “I would like to discuss this with Wonti or when he is on the supervisory board at some point,” said Baumann and then began to deal with the verbal blow: “Wonti has not contacted me in the last two years. If so, then it was all about free tickets for the VIP area. “
Rather, the criticism of the management, according to Baumann, was “pulled by the hair. It is difficult when outsiders who have no insight into the internals express themselves accordingly. “
The elections for the new supervisory body are expected to take place in April 2021 at the general meeting, which has been postponed due to the corona. So far, the control body has been headed by Marco Bode.
