Skeletonist Netlaus wins the European Cup in Sigulda / Article / LSM.lv

Netlaus was the fastest in the first race, but in the second race he had the second best result. He completed the track in two races in a minute and 41.53 seconds. He was 0.87 seconds ahead of German Cedric Renner, who was first in the second race, 0.1 second ahead of Netlau, and third ahead of another German Stefan Rethig, 1.2 seconds behind the winner.

The fourth place was also taken by the German athlete Lukas David Niedeger, who was 1.57 seconds behind Netlau and a hundredth of a second ahead of Elvi Weinberg, who finished in fifth and third place.

In the competition of 20 athletes, Valts Smilga took the 12th place 3.49 seconds behind the winner. He is 13th and 11th in some races.

Netlaus also won the European Cup in Sigulda in January this year.

It has already been reported that Dārta Zunte took the second place in the women’s competition. Zunte took the second place in both races, conceding only German Stefan Foca in the sum of two races, who performed both races in a minute and 47.11 seconds, overtaking Latvian athletes by 0.68 seconds. In the second race, Zunte gave in to the German athlete by only 0.13 seconds.

Loreta Lodziņa took the 15th place in the first race, in the second she was able to finish the track with a fall, ranking 16th.

17 athletes started, without Ukrainian Katerina Kuca finishing in the first race.

In the overall three-stage standings, with German skeletonists taking first place, Foca is first with 195 points. Zunte is in the 11th place with participation in one stage and 65 points, Lodziņa with 20 points – in the 28th place in the competition of 29 athletes.

Crews from seven countries will compete in Bobsleigh on both Saturday and Sunday. The Latvian team will start with two doubles, led by pilots Dāvis Kaufmanis and Emīls Cipulis.

The competition takes place in a special “bubble” without the presence of spectators and with mandatory Covid-19 tests for all present.

In Skeleton, the European Cup is the third level after the World Cup and the Intercontinental Cup. In bobsleigh, the European Cup is the second level after the World Cup.
