Mainz – Bochum 2: 5 nE

After days of chaos in terms of personnel, FSV Mainz 05 suffered another sporting blow. The bottom of the table in the Bundesliga lost the second round match in the DFB Cup against second division fourth VfL Bochum 3-0 on penalties and was eliminated. After 120 minutes the score was 2-2. For FSV coach Jan-Moritz Lichte, it should have been the last game on the bench. Jean-Paul Boëtius in the 7th minute and Danny Latza (55th) gave the hosts a 2-0 lead in regular time, but Bochum beat the former Mainz Gerrit Holtmann (66th) and Robert Tesche (90th +) 4) back. VfL goalkeeper Manuel Riemann (95th) saw the red card in extra time, but Mainz could not use the majority and lost the point in the nerve duel because all three penalties did not land in goal. (dpa)
