Roger Federer and how to keep motivation alive at almost 40 years old

There are many who miss Roger Federer on the tennis courts. In just over a month it will be a year without seeing him compete and it is expected that his knee injury will be completely behind so he can make a normal schedule, playing in the most important tournaments. During his preseason time, where he is giving hard to the physical section and adding more and more hours hitting the ball, the Helvetian went through the microphones of Podcourt to tell how he continues to maintain the desire and motivation to get up every morning to train when he has practically everything won and not far from his 40th birthday.

Federer assures that it is not easy for him on some occasions to balance his professional life with his family life since organizing the lives of so many people according to the time of year and the tour he has to do is quite complicated. “Organizing my whole family requires a lot of organization and knowing how to plan everything very well. It takes a lot of patience because it is a lot of work but all this will continue to be worth it as long as my children like to travel and we all have a good time together ”, explains Roger.

Apart from his family, as a tennis player, the winner of 20 Grand Slams reveals how he maintains his personal motivation to wake up each day wanting to continue doing what he does after more than two decades as a professional. “As a player, I think it’s all based on how you keep the inner flame alive. I’ve played Cincinnati or Wimbledon 20 times in a row. Once you get back there, you want to keep doing it well and be as successful as possible. You want to keep that fire and win every point, every game, every match and much more, ”says Roger Federer.

The importance of your equipment and listening to your body

To remain active in a year when it will turn 40, it is very important to know how to surround yourself with the right people and, above all, to listen very well to your body. Roger, who has never ever retired during a game in his entire career, expresses the importance of these two aspects.

“In order to carry out everything that I have mentioned before, it is important to have a very strong team. That helps me squeeze that 10% out of myself and reminds me to give all my energy for the next game, ”says the Swiss. “As for the physical, it is very important to listen to what your body tells you and organize a good calendar,” says a Federer who still has a couple more weeks of preseason work to decide if he is ready to fly to Melbourne to compete in the Open de Australia 2021.
