Río Ceballos, home to a beach tennis exhibition

Beach tennis is a beach sport, but like most disciplines that take place on the sand, it seeks expansion to other cities. This Monday, Río Ceballos hosted an exhibition given by referents of the discipline in Argentina.

Jessica Orselli, number one in the country, and Soledad Oneto were present at the Villegas Eventos and Hotel de Río Ceballos premises. There, together with Alexia Malbrán, instructor in charge of the Alegría en Movimiento school, they carried out a clinic to disseminate the sport that is played in the sand and with the particularity that the ball does not sting and that instead of rackets, paddles are used.

Both Oneto and Orselli and Malbrán have a past linked to conventional tennis; In the case of the first two, different people took them to know beach tennis and they started playing it. “We loved it, we met competing and now the idea is that people can know what generates so much passion for us and that they can play it,” says Oneto, who clarifies that they started in Rosario two years ago and that their objective is to can play in different parts of the country.

“Our idea is to take it so that people get to know it, have fun and know a little more about the sport,” he adds.

The discipline is endorsed by the Argentine Tennis Association (AAT), the International Federation (ITF) and the Cordovan (FCT). “It is one more form of tennis, which is regulated. Today the Cordovan Federation is aware of all this and the idea is that they give us a hand from that side. Alexia in Río Ceballos or I am from Bell Ville, beyond I live in Buenos Aires, we want to give it a bit of a boom in the province. I think we have a lot of material to do it, “says Orselli and affirms that in the summer they will be taking the activity to the Atlantic Coast, Dolores and Puerto Madryn.

Beach tennis has a circuit of national tournaments, in which Rosario is the one with the greatest presence. Also an important offer of international competitions, with South American, Pan American and world competitions. “There is everything to do”, indicates Oneto and closes: “The idea is that Argentina is in all those spaces.”
