Red Bull confirmed Sergio Pérez for 2021 – F1sport.cz

Red Bull was originally supposed to choose between Albon, Pérez and Hülkenberg, but recently the selection has been narrowed to the first two names.

Pérez is likely to bring new sponsors to the team, which is especially important when Aston Martin ends and Honda is about to leave. Red Bull will need money to prepare the infrastructure for the production of propulsion units on its own.

“I am incredibly grateful to Red Bull for giving me the opportunity to race for Red Bull Racing in 2021,” said Pérez.

“The chance to race for a team competing for the championship is something I’ve been hoping for since I entered Formula 1.”

“You can be sure that I will be fully focused on next season. The team has the same winning mentality as me and I know I’m here to perform and help the team fight for the next title. “

“Alex is a respected member of the team,” said Christian Horner. “It simply came to our notice then. After taking the time to evaluate all relevant data and performances, we decided that Sergio was the right driver to be Max’s partner for 2021. We look forward to welcoming him to Red Bull Racing. ”

In recent days, there has been speculation that Helmut Marko is enthusiastic about the abilities of Júki Cunoda, who will race for AlphaTauri next year. It is therefore possible that Pérez will only remain for a year.

Sergio Pérez made his F1 debut in 2011 at Sauber. In 2013 he rode for McLaren and since 2014 he has been with the Force India. He has 10 podiums on his account, this year he won his first victory.

Albon will be the reserve rider

Alexander Albon remains with the team as a test and reserve driver. Among other things, it will focus on preparing the team for 2022 (tests of 18-inch tires).
