Point round in Hessian badminton is canceled

The Hessian Badminton Association has declared the points round over and canceled the tournament for the first quarter of 2021. The decision is still pending in the top division.

SOUTH HESSE – (udo). Another sport has drawn far-reaching consequences from the current development of the pandemic. The Presidium of the Hessian Badminton Association (HBV) has declared the point round to be over and canceled all tournaments at state level for the first quarter of 2021. “Due to the high number of infections, lockdown, reduced contact and temporary curfews, regular sports operations are unthinkable in the foreseeable future. The protection and health of the athletes and all those involved is the top priority and must be guaranteed, ”said the HBV Presidium after consultation with those responsible for the badminton districts. “To make matters worse for league operations is the fact that cities and municipalities partially converted their sports halls into vaccination centers in the course of December. Training and games are no longer possible there. ”

The HBV board has decided that the 2020/2021 season at state level will end without evaluation and that there will be no promoted or relegated players due to the low number of matches that have already been played. The teams will remain in their respective leagues for the 2021/22 season.

Decisions on the divisions above the Hessenliga are still pending. “But already with the first measures in the spring it was the case that the state associations submitted and the regional associations later decided the same,” says Kristian Achenbach as the club spokesman for TV Dieburg / Groß -zimmer, which plays in the top division. In view of the current situation, he expected the decision of the HBV as well as the representatives of SG Dornheim. “We can’t train. It is definitely an advantage that there are no relegated teams, ”says Maurice Miro from the Dornheim Hessenliga team. There were still considerations to possibly drag the games into the summer. For the SG department head, the end of the season was foreseeable. “It makes perfect sense. And anything else would have surprised me, ”says Miro, who is expecting a decision for the Oberliga, in which BV Darmstadt also plays from the southern Hessian clubs, at the beginning of the new year.
