Paul Herygers and Wout van Aert have a few things in common. They have both become Belgian champions and world champion cyclocross. And they are fellow villagers too, because they both come from Lille. It is clear that everyone there is proud of Van Aert.
At the GARDEN the commentators give each other a sports performance from 2020 as a ‘gift’. Paul Herygers received the victory of Wout van Aert in Milan-Sanremo from cocommentator Michel Wuyts. Herygers is somewhat satisfied with that.
“Wout rode like a great gentleman in Sanremo”, says Herygers. “I still wonder now: who taught him all that? He drove the perfect sprint. I thought it was grand. No, I didn’t immediately see that Wout would shine on the road.”
Herygers addresses directly to Van Aert to thank him for all those phenomenal achievements on the road. “We are grateful for that. You have made us happy forever, Wout. Lille is proud, the Broekzijstraat is proud, Paul is proud!”
