Paolo Rossi dies at the age of 64

The Italian football legend Paolo Rossi has died at the age of 64.

Rossi played famously for Italy in his 1982 FIFA World Cup victory, scoring six goals to win both the Golden Boot top scorer and the Golden Ball player of the tournament.

The 1982 Ballon d’Or winner with Juventus is considered one of the greatest players of all time and has won two Serie A titles, the Coppa Italia, the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and the European Cup. The striker also played for Como, Vicenza, Perugia, Milan and Hellas Verona.

Italian television broadcaster RAI Sport, for which Rossi had worked, announced the news on Thursday.

“Such terribly sad news: Paolo Rossi has left us,” said RAI Sport presenter Enrico Varriale.

“Unforgettable Pablito, who made us all fall in love in the summer of 1982 and who has been a valuable and competent colleague at RAI over the past few years.

“RIP dear Paolo.”
