OZ athlete choice: what was the best performance in 2020?

Even if the amateur sport was inactive for a long time, there were still numerous performances that caused a stir. This year, the categories of athletes and teams are combined in one.

Jonas Schweigart

The captain of the third division handball team OHV Aurich is a model of consistency and sets a great example. In the interrupted 19/20 season, the OHV landed on the outstanding fifth place, in the current season the Aurich are in eighth place. The performance of Schweigart in Spenge was outstanding when he scored eleven goals.

Tido Steffens

The attacker is still on duty at Kickers Emden. With the East Frisians in front of the box, nobody is as callous as the 26-year-old attacker. Even in the aborted season, he was able to net four times in eight games. It is also a model of consistency. Coach Emmerling has not wanted to miss him for a minute.

TuRa 07 1st + 2nd team

The footballers of TuRa 07 can look back on an outstanding 19/20 season. The first team rose from the district to the state league. And the second team “U23” was also able to celebrate the jump from the A-class to the East Frisian League. Both teams got off to a decent start to the season and are both in the middle of the table.

SG TiMoNo

For a long time, the rise of the SG TiMoNo women’s soccer team hung by a thread. Because the lead club Veenhusen wanted to get out, there was even a risk of forced relegation. In the end, the clubs came to an agreement and nothing stood in the way of starting in the major league. After six absolute fourth games, the women say hello again from the top of the table.

Felix Ebel

Felix Ebel (Emder Laufgemeinschaft) celebrated the greatest success this season: At the U18 athletics championships, he surprisingly took second place over the 3000 meters. He has one big goal in mind: Participation in the Olympic Games.

Jan and Heiko Meyer

The last season was very successful for the brothers Jan and Heiko Meyer (Eintracht Ihlow) in e-football. In the championship they won the title with the optimal yield. The duo also prevailed in the final of the 1st Sparkassen District Cup presented by the Ostfriesen-Zeitung. The crowning glory was qualifying for the DFB E-Cup.

Josefine Ihlow won the North German Championship at the beginning of the year.

Josefine Ihlow

The East Frisian Josefine Ihlow is number one in judo in northern Germany. The fighter from VfL Germania Leer won the North German Championship in the U18 class in Lutten at the beginning of the year. So she secured the title for the second time after 2019.

Amelie Schwabe

Amelie Schwabe practically floated to success. The U18 high jumper of VfL Germania Leer became national champion in Oldenburg with her personal best. In the second attempt, she managed the “magic limit” of 1.70 meters. It is understandable that the jubilation with her and her trainer Enno Tjarks was huge after the soaring.

Glen Sokoli

The striker is a regular in the new “OZ-Elf der Woche”. The SpVg Aurich played a very strong role in the district league so far. Mainly thanks to Glen Sokoli: The attacker marked 14 of his team’s 20 goals. Sokoli leads the scoring list and of course hopes that he will be able to add a few more goals on the field in the new year.

Matthias Heinken

The MTV Aurich / TV Norden triathlete has been at the forefront for years. At this year’s “Ostfreesland Fietser”, a cycling time trial competition, Matthias Heinken took the victory. And then he did a marathon “on his own”, which he completed in a remarkable time of 2:39 hours.
