Opinion on Oviedo-Alcorcón: excessive pseudo-penalties

The supposed penalty committed yesterday by Cedric was not seen in the first instance by the referee or by any member of the Alcorcón squad. There were no protests. It was one more set of the game without apparent danger. But from the VAR, as it has become customary as far as Oviedo is concerned, they said no, that there was something strange there, and until the judge of the contest, Rafael Sánchez López, did not approach to review the play, no they stopped, they were not calm. And they must have insisted so much that it was the maximum penalty that the referee at the end pointed it out almost immediately, hardly seeing the play on the screen at the foot of the field. Hugo Fraile scored for Madrid and Oviedo launched into a desperate attack, an attack of those that most of the time are irrelevant because of nerves and haste. But this was not the case. In a huge uproar in the Anquela Sangalli area, he was the smartest in the class and managed to get the ball into the net. Tie on the scoreboard.

But the meeting did not end there. There were more opportunities in the last ten minutes of the game and, above all, more emotion than in the previous 85. Either contestant was able to win, without the need for VAR help from either. In the end, distribution of points thanks to two portentous interventions by Femenías and Jiménez.

The first part was one of those that specialists say serious, when what they really are is boring, lacking any imaginative action. Everything too stuck, with two teams determined not to let the opposite play. Fortunately, at the end of these first 45 minutes, Oviedo woke up timidly and had two chances to get ahead on the scoreboard. Especially one of them, after an excellent combination between Nahuel, Sangalli and Nieto, which ended with a shot to the post of this; a really nice play, of a lot of quality, which served to get the fans out of slumber. In the second half everything continued along the same lines. Oviedo had more of the ball, but without more. That the points were better, yes, but this is football and the goal is the only thing that works in the end. The rest are only good intentions, which can be ruined by an unfortunate move, however disputed it may be, as was seen yesterday at Carlos Tartiere.

The best thing about Oviedo last night was its confidence, its struggle, its not accepting setbacks and dealing with frustration and disappointment with chaste. With this attitude when they come well given, they will surely come, Ziganda’s pupils will also return to the path of triumph. But they must react now so as not to enter dangerous positions again, from which it is already known that it is very difficult to get out.
