No more postponing matches due to corona? “Cores are spacious enough” | Jupiler Pro League

“In the Pro League, the proposal is on the table to no longer postpone matches from April 1,” our commentator Peter Vandenbempt told Extra Time.

“And if you cannot select enough players for a match, it automatically leads to a forfeit defeat (5-0, ed.).”

In this way, the Pro League wants to avoid the play-offs being jeopardized. In recent weeks, at least one match per match day has been postponed. That leads to extra midweek football, also during this Christmas holiday.

Beerschot has to make up 2 more matches during the winter break, Eupen even 3. On January 18, the Pro League will discuss the measure during the general meeting.

During the winter break there are 5 catch-up games on the program. That is impossible in the spring, argues the Pro League.

“It is not necessarily about the play-offs, we do notice that the European calendar leaves very little room to postpone games,” explains spokesman Stijn Van Bever.

“So we prefer to let them continue, with of course attention to the health situation. Positive players are not allowed on the field, but at many of our clubs the cores are spacious enough”, says the Pro League.

“Hopefully it will not come to that, but it should work. Matches must be played with the footballers who are available.”

“Until this season, there was also no possibility to postpone games due to illness. If there was stomach flu hanging around in the locker room, they still played. Just like the teams continued to play football despite a high injury burden.”
