280,000 US citizens have so far died of the coronavirus or its consequences. NBA star Karl-Anthony Towns (25) had to find out first hand that the virus is dangerous. He has lost seven of his family members in the past few months.
“I’ve seen a lot of coffins in the last seven months,” said the Minnesota Timberwolves Center last Friday to “ESPN”. «Many members of my family have been infected with COVID. I’m the one who’s still looking for answers and trying to figure out how to stay healthy. “
Mother died at the age of 58
His mother, Jacqueline Cruz-Towns, was hospitalized at the end of March and died on April 13 at the age of 58. While she was still fighting for her life in the hospital, Towns published an emotional video on Instagram in which he told of his mother’s suffering.
Just last week he lost his uncle too. “I received a call last night that I had lost my uncle. I feel a little hardened and humble from life. ” His father Karl Sr. was also infected, but has since recovered.
Teammates stood by his side
His teammates, especially D’Angelo Russell (24), helped him through the difficult time after his mother’s death. But since she rarely missed one of his games, it would be very difficult to get back on the floor.
“It always made me smile when I saw my mother on the baseline and in the stands, enjoying herself and watching me play.” (red)
