In a performance for the applause, the Peruvian badminton team won the title of the South American Adult and Youth Championship of the discipline, which was played at the Sports Center 2 of the National Sports Village (Videna), where the exponents of Argentina, Bolivia and Colombia showed their best for eight days

In the general count of both categories, “Team Peru” achieved a total of 68 medals: 18 gold, 20 silver and 30 bronze. The under 17 and under 19 categories added 31 medals, while the under 15 and over categories were left with 37 albums; both individually and in teams. Thanks to these figures, the squad that is directed by the head of the Technical Unit, Frank Dacal, became South American champion.

“The boys felt comfortable competing at home. We are grateful that we reached the goal in a venue that is in good standing. I’ve been in charge of the national team for a year, we changed some details and I found no resistance. Now it’s time to celebrate the results, ”said Frank Dacal.

Daniela Macías (in singles), Brayan Roque (in singles), Danica Nishimura (in doubles and mixed), Daniel Latorre (in singles and doubles), Ian Moromisato (singles, doubles and mixed), Talli Chomchey and the Munar sisters (in doubles) triumphed from the venue that was remodeled for the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games.

“I am happy to have defended my title in singles and doubles. The coliseum is in good condition and that allowed us to perform well. Peru proved to be at a very good level ”, highlighted Daniela Macías, who will also seek her qualification for the next Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

After the management carried out by the Peruvian Badminton Sports Federation (FDPB) with the Peruvian Institute of Sports (IPD) and the Lima 2019 Special Legacy Project, more than 90 athletes competed in a first-level venue, which conforms to the standards required by the International Badminton Federation.

Within the framework of the reactivation of competitions, Sports Center 2 will host the National Youth Badminton and Parabádminton Championship, from Saturday 26 to Wednesday 30 of this month.

The tournaments are held following the protocols established by the Ministry of Health (MINSA) and supervised by Legado as the venue administrator.
