Morata’s Action That Made Pirlo Angry

Turin

Juventus striker Alvaro Morata made a silly mistake in the 1-1 draw against Atalanta. Morata’s behavior made Juve coach Andrea Pirlo angry.

This moment occurred in the 15th minute in the Italian League match at Allianz Stadium, Thursday (17/12/2020). After receiving Weston McKennie’s pass, Morata sent the ball to Cristiano Ronaldo. But the ball can be blocked with goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini and defender Berat Djimsiti out of position. The ball rolled into Morata’s lane then continued with a backheel kick into the empty net.

However, Morata’s kick goes wide! Quoted from Football-Italia, Pirlo is furious. The successor of Maurizio Sarri then kicked several bottles of drinking water that were nearby.

However, even if Alvaro Morata manages to net the ball, the goal will be disallowed. Morata was apparently in an offside position when he received McKennie’s pass. But it cannot be denied that it is still surprising as he could fail to complete such an easy opportunity.

After that, Juventus finally opened the scoring thanks to Federico Chiesa’s goal in the first half. After halftime, Atalanta scored a goal back from Remo Freuler.

Juventus actually could have received a different final result following Cristiano Ronaldo’s failure to convert the penalty in the 61st minute. Alvaro Morata himself was replaced by Paulo Dybala in the last 10 minutes of the match. During 84 minutes on the field, Morata created three attempts, two of which led to Atalanta’s goal.

“That failure makes me very angry. It’s something we can’t do. Opportunities like that can affect the game in some way,” Andrea Pirlo grumbled after the match.

“A player has to have the clarity of mind to make the right choice and he is not. Even so he is doing well, failing to score goals sometimes happens,” he said of Alvaro Morata’s failure.
