Mikel Arteta empties her bag

Nothing is going well at Arsenal! Fifteenth in the Premier League with 14 points currently, the Gunners are experiencing great difficulties. After 13 days of the championship, they have a sad record of 4 wins, 2 draws and 7 defeats. All with an attack that struggles to bring (11 goals, 4th worst attack in the Premier League). Disturbing. And we will have to raise our heads very quickly since tomorrow, Arsenal will travel to Everton. During a press conference this Friday, Mikel Arteta spoke of this coming shock.

A complicated year

“It’s always very difficult to go to Goodison Park. I played there and I know it very well. The teams are in two very different times, but we are preparing the match to go there and beat them because we need a result ”. Indeed, since November 1 and the 1-0 success at Manchester United, Arsenal has not won in the Premier League. A point to be rectified as soon as possible for an increasingly criticized Mikel Arteta. In office since December 20, 2019, the one who succeeded his compatriot Unai Emery does not live a first experience of any rest as he admitted today.

“I think it’s one of the toughest years in club history for so many reasons. I think we’ve made a lot of progress and implemented a lot of positives here that have worked really well. We have experienced structural changes throughout the club, which obviously shook it. I would say the highlights of this year are the two trophies we won together. And the most disappointing thing is that we didn’t have our fans with us to accompany us in this difficult moment. I think it could have been a really, really positive year, but recent form in the Premier League has taken a toll on what we have been doing in the calendar year. But we have to admit that our form in the Premier League in recent weeks has not been good enough ”.

Arteta discusses his situation

The Gunners coach then clarified: “I know and realized how difficult our job is under normal conditions. When you come into a club that has to go through what we’ve been through in a year and on top of that, that you have a pandemic that affects the whole world and the way you can even live your profession and do what you are able to do it is even more difficult. But that’s what we went through. At the same time, I tell you that I love what I do. I feel so lucky and privileged to represent this football club. And there are circumstances and a context which right now are what they are and we have to face them because there is no other choice ”. This does not explain everything, especially the Gunners’ earnings crisis.

But Arteta can count on its leaders during this period. “I said from the start that I really felt supported by the owners, by the board of directors, by the technical director. And then by all those who are at the club, because at the end of the day, it’s a feeling that I have with the staff, with the players who are the most important. What chemistry do you have with them? What understanding do you have? Are they following you? Do they believe in what you are trying to do? And I always have to say thank you because I haven’t seen anything that goes against what we’re trying to do. But it’s like any business, you need results. After a big shake, you need to find stability. I know that for this we need time. We all knew, at least the people who made this decision with me, that it was not a quick fix. That it was going to take a while and that when you shake things up it can take a while ”. Still enjoying the confidence of his club, Mikel Arteta also knows that he does not have much room for mistakes.
