Michael van Gerwen celebrates ‘lonely’ Christmas with gourmet in his hotel room in London

Darter Michael van Gerwen makes the best of it now that he is forced to spend Christmas in his hotel room in London. With his colleagues Vincent van der Voort and Dirk van Duijvenbode, he ventured into the typically Dutch tradition at Christmas: gourmet food. In their case, the gourmet set was placed on the windowsill.

While the Dutch darts players have to miss their family for Christmas this year, Van Gerwen and bosom friend Vincent van der Voort already wished their fans a merry Christmas and a special day before the Christmas dinner Friday.

At the time, there was not really a Christmas atmosphere for both gentlemen. Witness the desolate photo from the hotel room that the two hurled into the world. Van Gerwen seems to be pointing to the beautiful view.

After Van Gerwen won his first match at the World Championship in London last Saturday, he went back home, assuming he could celebrate Christmas at home with his wife and children. However, due to the tightened measures by the new corona variant in the United Kingdom, he quickly changed his plans and left Vlijmen three hours later. Sunday evening he was back in his hotel room in London.

And so he enjoyed a real Christmas gourmet there on Friday evening. “Be careful,” said van Gerwen on social media with a nod to star chefs Gordon Ramsay and Tom Kerridge. He probably could still enjoy the baking air for a while, because there are no temperatures to open the window wide.
