Mercedes Open Golf de la Réunion: The Elissalde brothers, nou

The day after a first round played in four balls, the second round of the Mercedes Open Golf de la Réunion was held this Saturday in the greensome. A more delicate formula than the first, since after a throw-in for each player, only one ball is kept, played alternately by one then the other. In this little game, the complementarity and knowledge of the other works wonders, and this is what the Elissalde brothers demonstrated by making a card of 64 (-7), the best of the day.

« It’s special to play with your brother ”, told Thomas Elissalde, 28 years old and five times winner on theAlps Tour, to our colleagues from Golf Journal. “We play very little doubles, but we are used to training together. We know each other by heart so it’s an advantage. […] The greensome is a formula that suits us better than the four balls. Paul has been much more consistent for the past six months and that has helped us a lot. ” Thomas and his little brother Paul Elissalde, 24 years old and also a player in the European third division, have taken the lead in the tournament: after 36 holes they are at -14 and can dream of a family victory, three years after coming close in the 2017 edition.

However, they will have to resist the onslaught of their competitors Sunday during a last round played again in four balls. Just behind them at -13, the doublets made up of Victor Veyret and Hubert Tisserand on the one hand, Robin roussel and Ugo Coussaud on the other hand, they also shone in the greensome with respective cards of 64 (-7) and 65 (-6). The leaders of the first round Sebastien Gros and Benoît Teilleria are fourth at -10 after a day in 70 (-1), up to Sebastien gandon and Benjamin Kedochim (67).
