At the end of that season, Hamilton and Mercedes no longer had a contract and decided to postpone the renewal talks until the star driver had won his seventh Formula 1 title.
Hamilton recently said he wants a new deal before Christmas, a goal that is expected to be conveniently achieved based on a tweet from the Mercedes team.
Under the heading #Announce, the roster tweeted a quote from Hamilton expressing a desire to sign up for 2021.
“I plan to be here next year. I want to be here next year,” was the quote.
“I think we as a team have more to do together and achieve more, both in and outside of the sport.”
The confirmation of a new Hamilton contract will officially secure the Mercedes line-up for the 2021 season, with Valtteri Bottas already signed.
However, Hamilton was listed as a Mercedes driver on the first FIA starting list published last week.
Mercedes and Red Bull are the last two teams to officially announce their line-up for 2021. The latter is expected to be announced by Sergio Perez today (Friday) alongside Max Verstappen.
