Markus Eisenbichler before the Four Hills Tournament

Ein man, one word. He had promised, and when the Eisenbichler Festival came to an end at the Nordic World Ski Championships on the Seefeld high plateau in February 2019, the Bavarian swapped his ski jumping suit for proper lederhosen and showed a Schuhplattler in the German House. Free, lively, detached – just like Markus Eisenbichler pursues his sporting passion, ski jumping.

Eisenbichler is a man of extremes. His saying “victory or coffin” has long been a cult. That means: always full bottle, always give everything. Great when it results in a victory. Bad luck if it doesn’t work out as desired. Around the turn of the year, ski jumping should work particularly well. The Four Hills Tournament, the cross-border flight fun in Oberstdorf, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck and Bischofshofen, will again attract millions of viewers in front of the TV. There won’t be any sold-out stadiums on the Schattenberg, Gudiberg, Bergisel or for the finals on the natural hill in Salzburger Land. Corona has ruined all plans. Since November, since the start of the World Cup, the ski jumpers have been living in their own bladder, flying from place to place with a charter plane across nations.
