Marko touches on Albon’s pain point: “Verstappen drove around those problems”

After a relatively short, but also relatively powerful Formula 1 season, Helmut Marko looks back at the end of the year. Red Bull came second in the standings for the constructors trophy, but only one driver of the team managed to shine: Max Verstappen. The other, Alexander Albon, was disappointing.

The British Thai was therefore replaced at the end of the year by Sergio Perez. According to Marko, Albon was simply not good enough. “He lacked constancy. Moreover, he was easily upset when, for example, the wind started to rise or the wind direction changed.”

“Or if the tires started to wear out, then he lost relatively too much time”, the Austrian sighs, who admits that the Red Bull was very sensitive, but that Max Verstappen was able to handle it well at the same time. “The RB16 is very sensitive to wind, but Max knows how to drive around it.”

“Let’s take Hungary as an example,” continues Marko. “There, Verstappen forgot to close his DRS when entering a corner. He just kept going and then just said that the car was a bit restless!” at the very least was spun.

Red Bull went with Max Verstappen for the world title in 2020, but in the end Lewis Hamilton dominated. Even the beautiful words of Helmut Marko could not change that. Where did it go wrong for Red Bull and Verstappen? RacingNews365 analyzes the season of Verstappen in the video below.
