Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, manager of Manchester United, commented on his team’s success in reaching the Premier League Cup semi-finals to face city rivals Manchester City in the Manchester derby.
Man United secured a position in the last four of the event which was also called the EFL Cup or Carabao Cup, due to sponsorship interests, by setting aside Everton.
Manchester City also won the last three editions of the Premier League Cup. Last season, it was the Citizens who eliminated Manchester United in the semifinals of the event.
“Sometimes a semi-final is tougher than a final because it is the worst moment to lose and get knocked out of an event,” said Solskjaer.
“In the semifinals we met Manchester City again so it’s going to be a big game again. Last season we didn’t take enough steps forward. We went through three semifinals and couldn’t take that step. We’ll see how this year is. I think you can see how much we’ve grown. As the game goes on, you can see how we grow and that is a big difference in us. “
“We will face City while staying on the ground and the determination to keep getting better. Now we are in a good position, but we do not want to be lulled,” said Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Different from previous seasons, the semi-finals of the Premier League Cup this time will only feature one leg party instead of the usual two. Apart from the Manchester derby, another duel in the last four saw Tottenham Hotspur’s match against Brentford. These matches will be played in early January.
