The FFJDA is sad to inform you of the death of Emile COUZINIE, 7th dan, at the age of 99.

Member of 3th Artillery regiment of Castres, he was during World War II prisoner of the Germans, deported to Russian internment camps then released in 1946 by the chance of an inspection by the Red Cross.

He took an active part in the Indochinese conflict, where he was, among other things, a trainer in “close combat” within colonial troops, as well as in operations to maintain order in Algeria. More than 20 years of his life will be devoted to serving his country.

He practiced judo in Indochina then became an instructor at Fort Carré d’Antibes (training for army sports instructors). Taking leave in Japan in 1954, he worked with Riseï Kano in the old Kodokan and trained with the Daïgo champions, Osawa.

He then joined the EIS of Fontainebleau as an executive of the Battalion of Antibes then trainer of the French military judo team of the Battalion of Joinville. Under his leadership and over the years his teams won numerous titles at the CISM military world championships until 1984.

He was the professor at ES Dammarie les lys for many years

International referee, he was co-author of “Judo Moderne” that millions of judoka have had in their hands in all French-speaking countries.

Decorated with the Military Medal, knight of the National Order of Merit and knight of the Academic Palms, he received many other military decorations.

The FFJDA presents its sincere condolences to its children and its family.
