Liverpool are not like champions in front of Tottenham

Jakarta

Jose Mourinho believes Tottenham Hotspur deserves a better result at Liverpool. Even Liverpool are said to not look like defending champions.

Tottenham Hotspur lost 1-2 at Anfield on Thursday (17/12/2020) in the early hours of WIB in the Premier League. Son Heung-min had time to reply to Mohamed Salah’s goal, but Roberto Firmino secured the home’s victory at the end of the match.

This defeat meant Tottenham Hotspur lost for the first time after 11 consecutive matches and lost to the top of the standings. Jose Mourinho’s team is now in second place with 25 points, three points behind Liverpool.

The match was tight and interesting. Liverpool, which were more dominant, had 11 chances on target, while Tottenham recorded two shots on target plus one that hit the post.

The opportunity that was thwarted by the pole came from Steven Bergwijn, who could have made the final result different. Even though Bergwijn is in a very free position and only has to face Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Bergwijn also had another good chance at the start of the second half, apart from Harry Kane whose header from close range shot over. Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho assessed that his team could match the game, so that Liverpool did not look like the defending champions of the Premier League or European champions two years ago.

“Tonight we faced the reigning champions in their stadium and we came to win. We have the best chances of winning,” he was quoted as saying Liverpool Echo.

“The chances of Steven Bergwijn are good opportunities, this is just talking about those two opportunities. The way this team is structured and it surprises them tactically, this team plays brilliantly.”

“Yesterday I told you how many days they spent with Juergen and how many days my children worked with me, and today the situation doesn’t look like that.”

“It doesn’t look like we are against a team that previously won and were champions of Europe. The difference is not visible on the pitch,” said Jose Mourinho.
