Lewandowski won The Best award for best player in the world

Robert Lewandowski was honored this Thursday as the best footballer of the year, after receiving the majority of votes among the team captains, team coaches and journalists from around the world who vote in the ‘The Best’ award organized by Fifa.

The scorer made plenty of merits to keep that award. During 2020 he was the footballer who scored the most scores in the world and with his team, Bayern Munich, he won all the tournaments he played: the Champions League, the Bundesliga, the German Cup, the European Super Cup and the German Super Cup.

The Pole outvoted Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who had shared eleven of the last twelve editions of this award among themselves, which for a time was organized in conjunction with the Ballon d’Or.

The ideal eleven of the year was made up of: Alisson Becker; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Sergio Ramos, Virgil Van Dijk, Alphonse Davies; Joshua Kimmich, Thiago Alcantara, Kevin De Bruyne; Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski.

This was the fifth edition of the ‘The Best’ awards as a Fifa’s own event. In the first two, Cristiano was the winner, in 2o18 the turn was for the Croatian Luka Modric, and last year the statuette was in the hands of Messi.

In the awards ‘The Best’ also German Jurgen Klopp was distinguished as the best coach in the world, who beat Hans Flick and Marcelo Bielsa in the vote.

South Korean Son Heung-min won the Puskas award for the best goal of the year, the same one celebrated by James Rodríguez in 2014 for his memorable score against Uruguay at the World Cup in Brazil.

Britain’s Lucy Bronze was the winner of the award for best player of the year.
