Latvian tennis national team games have been postponed to April 2021

The Federation Cup “play-off” games scheduled for February 5 and 6 for the Latvian women’s tennis team have been postponed to April next year, the organizers of the competition announced on Thursday.

It has already been reported that the ITF announced on March 11 that due to the rapid spread of the Covid-19 virus, the Federation Cup finals, as well as “play-off” tournament games, which were scheduled to start for the Latvian national team in mid-April, have been postponed indefinitely.

The Federation Cup final from April 14 to 19 was scheduled for the Laszlo Papa Arena in Budapest, but now the final has been postponed to next year’s 13-18. April without changing the venue.

The Federation Cup play-offs, which were initially postponed indefinitely due to Covid-19 and then scheduled for 5 and 6 February next year, were postponed to 16 and 17 April.

In one of the eight “play-off” pairs, a fight with India is planned for the Latvian national team. Eight duel winners are scheduled to participate in the Cup Qualifiers in 2022, while the losers will retire to Group I in their region.

In 2022, the competition calendar is expected to return to previous tracks.

At the beginning of February, Latvia, along with Jelena Ostapenko and Anastasia Sevastov, lost 2-3 home tennis players to the home team and did not make it into the top 12 teams to start in the final.

One victory for the Latvian national team was won by Anastasia Sevastova, who caused Serena Williams the first loss in the Federation Cup since 1999. Williams had not previously lost 14 games in a row.
