Latvian hockey legend Uldis Opits has gone to eternity

At the age of 88, the old Latvian hockey master Uldis Opits has passed away, reports the Latvian Hockey Federation (LHF).

In his youth, Uldis was the goalkeeper in the master team “Daugava”. He started playing hockey in the mid-fifties.

After a career as a hockey player, he worked as a coach at the Dinamo hockey school for almost 20 years. At the beginning of the nineties, Opits also started Latvian women’s hockey and was also the head coach of the Latvian women’s national team.

Uldis Opits was a significant organizer of hockey, the initiator of women’s and veterans’ hockey in Latvia. He has not only started the competition of Latvian old hockey masters, but also participated in the beginnings of the amateur hockey movement in Latvia.
