Knicks fall in Madison Square Garden premiere

The New York Knicks played their last official game at Madison Square Garden on March 8, 2020. Since then, 293 days have passed, and things continue the same. The locals lost 109-89 to Doc Rivers’ Philadelphia 76ers, although this time without an audience and without movie stars in the front row of the pavilion.

Canadian guard RJ Barrett, who was the opening day sensation with 26 points, had a game to forget, missing 13 of the 15 shots he tried for a total of 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

“Whatever happens, you can’t have a great performance every night,” RJ Barrett admitted to the NY Post. “I was trying to do things to stay in the game, do other things that could affect our game,” he added.

“This is not about me. It’s about team success. Whether it is shooting good or bad. It’s all about the team, ”he stressed.

Julius Randle led the Knicks with 25 points and 7 rebounds, followed by reserve Alec Burks, who returned to garner another remarkable performance with 22 points.

Rookies Obi Toppin and Immanuel Quickley were unable to dress short due to various calf and hip injuries respectively.

In the visitors, center Joel Embiid was the most outstanding with 27 points and 10 rebounds with a 10/20 shooting from the field. Teammates Tobias Harris and Seth Curry added 17 points each, and Ben Simmons had 15 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists.

Don said triumph, the Sixers started the course with a 2-0 and their coach Doc Rivers placed among the 10 coaches with the most victories in NBA history.
