Not to spoil James McCann’s arrival in New York, but some executives and agents believe the Mets screwed it up by not signing JT Realmuto and that Realmuto screwed it up by not signing with the Mets.

The free agency dwindles and dwindles, and sometimes a team and player work on different schedules to keep them from getting in line. That seems to have happened to the Mets and Realmuto. The Mets wanted to go faster than Realmuto, and when it turned out that no deal could be reached, they instead signed a four-year $ 40.6 million deal with McCann.
