The jury in the rape trial against former NRL superstar Jarryd Hayne was unable to reach a unanimous verdict.
The ex-Parramatta phenomenon is on trial for two serious sexual assaults that actually cause bodily harm.
The jury withdrew on Thursday to deliberate in Newcastle District Court after nearly a fortnight of hearings.
On Friday, the jury ordered the judge that a unanimous verdict could not be reached and they will resume deliberations in the hope that a decision can be made.
It is likely that the jury will return to the judge on Monday.
Hayne faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
There’s more to come.
