Javier Mendez evaluates Islam Makhachev will be greater than Khabib Nurmagomedov technically a fight. Mendez is a trainee for Khabib and Makhachev.
Reporting from Middle Easy, Mendez has trained Khabib for a long time. Until finally Khabib won a record of 29 wins without defeat and then retired after the UFC 254 match, all thanks to Mendez’s polish.
Currently, Mendez is also a coach for Makhachev who is predicted to be Khabib’s successor in the MMA and UFC world.
According to Mendez, there is one advantage of Makhachev that Khabib does not have, which is a standing fight. In a standing position, Makhachev is better.
“The point is, Islam is technically in a standing position, he is better. He has a better stand-up than Khabib,” said Mendez.
Mendez assessed that Makhachev could be better than Khabib with several notes. Starting from luck to getting an equal and right opponent.
“If everything goes according to plan, Islam will be Khabib’s better version in a technical sense,” he said.
Makhachev was Khabib’s cousin. While in the Nurmagomedov lineage, besides Umar, there are Said, Usman, and Abubakar who are also eligible to be Khabib’s successors.
But again Mendez gave his opinion, that currently there is no one better than Makhachev to replace Khabib.
“I don’t think anyone will be better than him, I just think technically Islam is a little better,” continued Mendez.
“I think Khabib is the best he has ever been in the arena. At the moment he was standing, but Khabib is not the best he has ever seen. Islam is one of them that has a little bit better,” he said.
