They confirmed on Wednesday noon Hamburg Towers what had already been suggested in the past few days: power forward Hans Brase (27) will no longer be used for the club from the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) this season. The German-American, who was only able to complete 5:54 minutes in the away game in Würzburg this season, has to undergo another knee operation. Even before his time in Hamburg, he had serious injuries to his joints in both legs.

“I am very sad that I cannot help the team. But the solidarity here is incredible, I’m very happy about the support and encouragement from my teammates, ”said Brase, who should actually play a key role.

Head coach Pedro Calles emphasized on Tuesday after the 65:86 defeat at the Giants Ludwigsburg that he and sporting director Marvin Willoughby (42) are on the lookout for a new signing. The Towers coach recently complained that not enough players were available in training and that the quality of the units would suffer. A problem that will only get worse.

Towers problems in cooperation with Wedel

Because of the risk of infection with the coronavirus, there is a new agreement between the BBL and the 2. Bundesliga ProA, which states that there may no longer be any mixing with players from the respective cooperation partners during training. Most recently, Jammal Schmedes (20) and Tucker Haymond (26) from SC Rist Wedel regularly replenished the towers’ training roster. From now on this will no longer be possible. The double licensed players Justus Hollatz (19), Osaro Jürgen Rich Igbineweka (22) and the currently injured Hendrik Drescher (20) are no longer allowed to jump back and forth between the two training squads.

After all, the talents for Wedel and the Towers can participate in the league. To do this, however, they have to undergo an additional corona test before the games.

The new regulation also affects the coaching staff.
