FIFA is filing a criminal lawsuit against former President Blater

According to FIFA, Blater has spent 500 million Swiss francs (approximately 462 million euros) on the rental and renovation of the museum’s museum for the global development of football.

The loss-making museum was a project cherished by Blater.

FIFA’s claim mentions Blater and other persons involved in contracts for the project. FIFA claims that 140 million has been spent on a building it does not own, but another 360 is the amount it will have to pay until 2045. The agreement is concluded on terms that do not fully correspond to the market situation.

As explained by FIFA Deputy Secretary-General Alasdairs Bel, the audit identified suspicious activities and management errors that could be of a criminal nature, and therefore involved the investigating authorities. The review will also be carried out by the FIFA Ethics Committees.

The FIFA Museum is housed in a ten-storey building owned by an insurance company, which also has 34 apartments and office space.

Two federal-level checks on payments during his presidency have now been launched against Blater. An investigation is also underway against FIFA’s current president, Gianni Infantino, who in 2017 used a FIFA-paid private jet.

Back in May 2015, Blater was elected for a fifth term, but only a few days later he announced that he would resign as president. Blater spent 17 years as president of FIFA.

In the same year, he was disqualified from any football-related activity for eight years, but was later reduced by two years.
