A few months after the end of her career, Maria Sharapova had a very private victory: The former tennis player got engaged to her boyfriend Alexander Gilkes – and shares romantic snapshots.
In February 2020, Maria Sharapova surprisingly announced the end of her tennis career at the age of 32. But since then it has not been lying on the lazy skin. The Russian regularly posts pictures and videos on Instagram that she shows during a workout.
But now Maria shared a few rare, very personal moments with her four million followers: She got engaged. “I said ‘yes’ from the first day we saw each other. That was our little secret, wasn’t it?” She wrote about a series of recordings she and her friend Alexander Gilkes are showing.
“To love you for a lifetime”
The British businessman also announced the good news with a picture of the couple and said: “Thank you for making me a very, very happy man. I look forward to loving you for a lifetime and learning from you.”
The couple were first spotted together in 2018. In 2012, Maria Sharapova separated from her fiancé, basketball player Sasha Vujacic. Until July 2015 she was in a relationship with the Bulgarian professional tennis player Grigor Dimitrov. Alexander Gilkes was married to designer Misha Nonoo, a close friend of Duchess Meghan, from 2012 to 2017.
