Today the friendlies begin for the 2nd FIBA eSports Open, which already has rivals and fixtures. Tonight’s rival is Guatemala and on Wednesday nothing less than the United States plays with the NBA.
In a year in which virtual sports (eSports) took a special role, in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, FIBA founded its own tournament, the FIBA eSports Open, under the Pro-AM modality of the NBA 2k video game. From the Confederation, the interest in competing in this new modality was such that it led to the creation of a National Team with the best players in the country and the beginning could not be better: the national team won the tournament after beating Brazil 4-1 in the final, played in June.
A few days after the end of the year, the illusions are renewed in the Argentine squad. On the weekend of 19 and 20 the second FIBA eSports Open will be played, for which they already have rivals and confirmed schedules. The challenge will begin with two high-flying games, the first against Brazil, on Saturday the 19th at 11:30, and the second against Uruguay, an hour later. The next day, they will play against Venezuela and Bolivia, at 11 and 13:30, respectively. The final would be played that same Sunday at 2.30pm.
“The group that touched us is complicated”, warned Ramiro Ellero (ItsRamiro-), captain of the team. “We know all our rivals, we have played with them practically every day, for a year. Brazil has a good team, but I think Uruguay is even better ”said the pivot in a talk with Prensa CABB.
Prior to the start of the tournament, Argentina will play two preparatory matches, first today -Sunday- at 10 p.m. against Guatemala and another against the United States, no less, on Wednesday at 8 p.m. The clash against the Americans will be one of the biggest challenges for the Argentines, who will face professional players, including some of the best in the world.
“These games are going to serve us a lot. Although we have been training every day for two weeks, playing with rivals like the United States, which has players from the 2K League (NBA eSports league), is very good for us. It is an opportunity that we have to make the most of. We are going to play on their servers, which means that we are going to be at a disadvantage, but we will try to do our best ”Ramiro concluded.
