Two out of three for the Oviedo Badminton Club women’s team. The players led by coach Jonathan Pérez repeated yesterday the title won in 2018, during the first edition of the Iberdrola Cup, a competition reserved for the eight clubs of the highest category, the Top-8 LaLigaSports, as well as four others from the First National. Oviedo, despite the last minute defeat of Lorena Uslé, demonstrated his superiority even yesterday in the semi-finals and the final, which he resolved on the fast track, 3-0 in both.

The Iberdrola Cup was played this weekend in Santa María de Benquerencia (Toledo) with a competitive formula different from that of the League: each match consisted of two matches in doubles and three in singles, with the team that had won all three wins earlier. . This is what allowed Oviedo to resolve their semi-final against Arjonilla without stress: Elena Fernández and Laura Solís beat Fátima Albín and Carmen Lara (11-7, 11-6 and 11-9); Kristina Dzhanhobekova and Claudia Leal to Manuela Díaz and Carla Moyano (11-9, 10-11, 11-5, 5-11 and 11-7) and Laura Álvarez to Lucía Ruiz (11-5, 9-11, 11-1 and 11-4).

The result of the final, against Rinconada, was even more powerful: Elena Fernández and Laura Solís beat Marta Calleja and María de la O Pérez (11-6, 11-10 and 11-7); Kristina Dzhanhobekova and Claudia Leal to Laura Molina and Marta Molina (11-8, 11-5 and 11-6); and Laura Álvarez to Lucía Merchán (11-4, 11-2 and 11-5). The sixth member of the Oviedo team, Candela Arcos, did not participate. CBO technical director César González acknowledges that the format has been beneficial to them: “Doubles were our strength and also U-17s, Laura Álvarez, so we didn’t let the best of rivals play.

With three changes from the team that was proclaimed champion in 2018, González believes there are great prospects for the future: “There is a good breed of players in the club and we hope to keep the same. base in the years to come. ” And adds: “This title is very important because the players have overcome all the problems linked to confinement ”.
